Tom Tinsley joined Galvmet Steel & HVAC Supply in June of 2008. Since then, Tom has worn many hats and had many titles. Whenever the need for a new position or a new project comes up, Tom’s name is the first that comes to mind. He has a unique opportunity to adapt and acclimate to whatever comes his way. In one of the more demanding jobs in the company, Tom doesn’t stress or over-react. He just makes sure what needs to be done gets done. A rare quality and part of what makes Tom an important part of our team.

When you call our main line, more often than not you will hear Tom answer!

Outside of work Tom enjoys watching the Royals, Chiefs and Tigers. He also enjoys spending time with his 15 year old daughter Sabrina. He has one of the most unique senses of humor you will ever find, which makes him a favorite with our employees. If you’re looking for a good way to distract Tom just ask him about the new iPad (there is always a “new” iPad) and he will bend your ear for a while. We appreciate Tom and his efforts for Galvmet, as well as his daily contribution to our business culture!

Galvmet was founded by Ernie Ketcham when National Steel Service Center (NSSC) filed for chapter 11. While still at NSSC, Ernie was asked by his boss at the time what he would do if he ran the place. His response was to focus on galvanized metal and eliminate some of the slower moving items. A little more than a year later that became the model for the business he would form.

Since 1992, Galvmet has seen many changes. For instance, the addition of Steel & HVAC Supply to our name. Growth has taken place within the caves, but our focus on our neighbors in the Midwest has never wavered. As a small business in Kansas City, we understand the unique pressures and deadlines that face many of our customers. Our goal is to make the sheet metal and fittings purchasing process as easy as possible. In response, we’ve built some extraordinary relationships.

Galvmet Steel & HVAC Supply wouldn’t be celebrating 20 years of being in business if not for you, our great customers, vendors and employees. Thank you all!

Steven has worked at Galvmet for 4 years in the warehouse, and over that time he has consistently ranked very low in errors. One of the stats we track is order pulling efficiency and for the month of January Steven scored 100% in this category. This along with his overall approach and the work ethic he exhibits every day made him an easy choice for February’s employee of the month.

In March, Jim Lindly was named employee of the month!

Jim is our Kansas City driver. Jim’s level of customer service is second-to-none. Jim’s spirit is exactly what we look for in an employee at Galvmet. Jim constantly goes above and beyond his primary duties, in addition to regularly getting customer compliments. We often have employees come to us to make sure that we know something he has done to make their life easier. Jim was an obvious choice for March’s employee of the month.

Thank you to Steven and Jim for the hard work. We appreciate you!

Easter is this weekend and we wanted to make sure to say Happy Easter to all of our clients, vendors, employees, friends and family!

Easter customs vary across the Christian world, but decorating Easter eggs is a common motif. In the Western world, customs such as egg hunting and the Easter Bunny extend from the church, and are often secular. Easter is a Christian feast and holiday celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ on the third day after his crucifixion at Calvary as described in the New Testament. Easter is preceded by Lent, a forty-day period of fasting, prayer, and penance. The last week of Lent is called Holy Week, and it contains Maundy Thursday, commemorating Maundy and the Last Supper, as well as Good Friday, commemorating the crucifixion and death of Jesus. Easter is followed by a fifty-day period called Eastertide or the Easter Season, ending with Pentecost Sunday. The festival is referred to in English by a variety of different names including Easter Day, Easter Sunday, Resurrection Day and Resurrection Sunday.

Easter is a moveable feast, meaning it is not fixed in relation to the civil calendar. The First Council of Nicaea established the date of Easter as the first Sunday after the full moon (the Paschal Full Moon) following the northern hemisphere’s vernal equinox. Ecclesiastically, the equinox is reckoned to be on March 21 (even though the equinox occurs, astronomically speaking, on March 20 in most years), and the “Full Moon” is not necessarily the astronomically correct date. The date of Easter therefore varies between March 22 and April 25. Eastern Christianity bases its calculations on the Julian calendar whose March 21 corresponds, during the 21st century, to April 3 in the Gregorian calendar, in which the celebration of Easter therefore varies between April 4 and May 8.

For even more background on Easter, check out the section on Wikipedia.

More about St. Patrick’s Day
Many people don’t know that the original color associated with Saint Patrick was blue. Over the years the color green and its association with Saint Patrick’s day grew. (Yet another reason that we love St. Patrick’s Day because our company color is green.) Green ribbons and shamrocks were worn in celebration of St Patrick’s Day as early as the 17th century. St. Patrick is said to have used the shamrock, a three-leaved plant, to explain the Holy Trinity to the pagan Irish, and the wearing and display of shamrocks and shamrock-inspired designs have become a ubiquitous feature of the day. In the 1798 rebellion, in hopes of making a political statement, Irish soldiers wore full green uniforms on March 17th in hopes of catching public attention. The phrase “the wearing of the green”, meaning to wear a shamrock on one’s clothing, derives from a song of the same name. For even more historical information about St. Patrick’s Day, check out Wikipedia.
